Message from the President By Phyllis Graybow, Rockland Chapter President Even though it’s hard to believe that summer is over already, it certainly was well spent at the Rockland Chapter. On July 2, we joined forces with Westchester County at a Young Professionals Cocktail Party. Many young and not-so-young members mingled with those in the legal, accounting, insurance and finance professions at a local sports bar. A great time was had by all. Once again, the Rockland and Westchester Chapters participated in a joint event on July 12. Members and their families attended the second annual Renegades Game up in Dutchess County, complete with a huge tailgate party preceding the ball game. Of course Rockland is not all play and no work. During July and August, we ran a series of four breakfast seminars, each offering three CPE credits. These courses were quite well attended, and all of the topics were not only interesting and timely but most informative as well. I would like to express my sincere appreciation to Prudential Financial, Provident Bank, Citibank and Paychex, who sponsored these summer CPE seminars. I encourage all of my colleagues to continue to support our sponsors with business referrals. Lastly, on August 13, I hosted our chapter’s first “Meet and Greet” at my home. In an effort to expand our membership, the executive board and I welcomed a dozen members and prospective members. This informal venue allowed everyone to peruse the chapter handbook and learn what benefits were to be gained by joining the chapter and by becoming an active participant. We hope to continue to offer these sessions periodically throughout the year. Now that summer is officially done, it is time to focus on the start of a new school year. I want to remind all of you that we are implementing an internship program with the local colleges in Rockland. Many of our business students are eager to gain college credits by interning at a CPA firm for a semester. This is an excellent opportunity for you to offer hands-on experience to a student, while obtaining additional assistance in return. If this initiative is of interest to you, please contact me via telephone or e-mail and I will forward your name to the appropriate party. Keep checking the Rockland homepage for updated information on future meetings and events. I look forward to seeing all of you there. |
