Message from the President

In this month’s message, I really want to take a moment to spotlight two committees that are having a positive impact on the Mid-Hudson Chapter.

The Young CPAs Committee had its first annual Hudson Valley Renegades networking event at Dutchess Stadium in July. The committee invited all Mid-Hudson Chapter members, in addition to other professionals in order to maximize the networking opportunities for attendees. Jennifer George, Cochair of the Young CPAs Committee, said,“It was a very successful event. Attendees had the opportunity to meet other professionals. You did not even have to be a huge baseball fan to enjoy the evening…the stadium had a nice picnic area that afforded the opportunity to have food, fun and networking.” The event was so successful they are already busy planning their next networking event.

On Sept. 24, the Young CPAs Committee is organizing a boat cruise on the River Rose paddleboat. Although organized by the Young CPAs, the cruise will also be open to all chapter members and other professionals. The check-in time will be 5:00 p.m. and the cruise is from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. It will offer networking, appetizers, juice/soda and a cash bar for other beverages and cocktails. The Mid-Hudson Chapter’s Emergency Assistance—Continuity of Practice Committee is another committee that has provided positive benefits to our chapter. This committee has been a long-standing one.

Sole practitioners who have no definite plan for the continuation of their practice when incapacitated, or its disposition in the event of death, run the risk of the loss of part or all of what they have built up over a lifetime. This need not happen if you use the Mid-Hudson Chapter’s Emergency Assistance—Continuity of Practice Committee as a prearranged measure.

The committee chairmen, Thomas R. DiGovanni, a partner with the firm Vanacore, DeBenedictus, DiGovanni & Weddell, LLP, and Kevin J. O’Connor, a sole practitioner in Highland Mills, will act promptly and serve diligently to minimize disruption of service and client dissatisfaction. In case of death, they arrange for the sale of the practice on the best terms possible while providing continuation of service in the interim.

The committee has developed a “survival kit” to help you plan. The kit will provide you with information on how you or your family can secure timely committee service. Do not be afraid to contact either Tom at 845-567-9000 or Kevin at 845-928-9164 with any questions that you may have.
