Conference to Reveal Inside Scoop on Taxation of Financial ProductsBy Aysha Livingston The Foundation for Accounting Education’s Taxation of Financial Products conference promises to be an informative and exciting opportunity to learn about credit derivatives, tax shelters, Section 864(b) and other topics. Experts will share the latest information and developments in dealing with financial products taxes at the conference on Wednesday, Oct. 17, at the New York Helmsley Hotel. Alvin Block, president of Mid America Group, will show how variable life insurance serves as a tool for eliminating those pesky income and estate taxes on investments. Leonard Zuckerman, Esq., of JP Morgan Chase, will shed light on credit derivatives, how they are taxed and how they can benefit clients. Attendees will discover in a session led by Stuart E. Leblang, Esq., the dos and don’ts of deferred compensation structures based on performance of money under management. Lon B. Smith of the Internal Revenue Service will share news on administrative matters related to the taxation of financial products. Steven Rosenthal, Esq., partner of Miller & Chevalier, will discuss evaluating tax shelters. He will answer questions concerning the IRS’ stance on perceived tax abuses; the likelihood of Congress passing anti-tax shelter legislation; and the best methods for evaluating tax shelters.
