Keep a Lookout for Your Update Form

By Bill Pape

Every member of the New York State Society of CPAs will soon receive an annual records update form in the mail.

This form is a very important document and I would like to call your attention to several of the critical items that it addresses:

  • E-mail address. Do we have your e-mail address? E-mail is an efficient method of providing information to members about programs and services. Often times, e-mail is the best way to alert members of late breaking news that can impact practices and businesses. For example, earlier this year 4,000 members received an e-mail addressing the privacy notifications required by the Graham-Leach-Bliley Act and the Federal Trade Commission. However, many members did not receive this informative e-mail because the Society did not have their e-mail address on file.

Additionally, many chapters would like to provide their chapter newsletters via e-mail. This could be a real cash and time saver for the Society.

  • Chapter designation. By this time, you probably know that the NYSSCPA has six new chapters. Society bylaws state that unless instructed otherwise, chapter designation is based on the location of your workplace, not the location of your home. However, you may belong to any chapter you wish. Your designation is important because through it, the Society is able to develop a mailing list for programs and other activities.
  • Interest codes. We have expanded and updated our interest codes. Staff reviews these codes to determine programming needs and services. Please review the codes we have on file and make any changes necessary. You may find a new code that better suits your professional needs. Your update will also help to make sure that you only receive mailings that are pertinent to your professional needs.

Please note that you can update your personal information any time you want by visiting www.nysscpa.org and clicking on the Your Information link located on the left hand side of the page.

Thank you in advance for ensuring the Society keeps accurate records of its members.
