CFO Conference to Canvass CFOs’ ValuesBy Amy Grant This year’s Chief Financial Officers Conference, which will take place September 21 at the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, will provide attendees with an understanding of what CFOs representing a variety of industries consider pertinent to their jobs. “This is a conference that will span the realm of interaction between financial leaders,” said Kenneth A. Bailey, director of administration at Bressler, Amery & Ross PC and chair of the CFO Committee. “The conference will be rich with new and diverse concepts and information. The issues discussed will be relevant and applicable to all industry leaders.” The CFO Committee focuses on helping accountants and Society members who work in private industry rather than in public accounting firms, Bailey said. According to current estimates, nearly one-third of Society members work in private industry. Web page usage, Internet liability, employment practices liability, application service providers, compensation analysis, and value-added services are just a few of the topics to be covered. More than a dozen experts will present programs, all of which will include a question-and-answer period, providing an opportunity to network and share ideas with industry leaders. Mark Ellis, CFO of Michael C. Fina, will discuss what it takes to be an outstanding CFO. “Being a good accountant does not guarantee being a good CFO,” Ellis said. “As CFO, you must gain the confidence and respect of owners, managers, vendors, and customers. Only when this happens can you effectively succeed and have fun using those financial skills to improve the bottom line.” To register visit www.nysscpa.org.
