New York and New Jersey Tax Update: August 26

The New York State Society of CPAs will host an evening technical session on New York and New Jersey tax developments on Aug. 26. Presented by the Society’s Partnerships and LLCs Committee and the New York, Multistate and Local Taxation Committee, the session will feature some of the most renowned speakers in the field, including Mark H. Levin, of H. J. Behrman & Company LLP, Richard D. Nicholas, of American Express Tax & Business Services, Inc., and Neil Tipograph, of Imowitz Koening & Co., LLP.

Mr. Levin will provide an overview of the recent New York state and city tax legislation, including the new revisions to New York City estimated tax payments due on Sept. 15, 2003.

Mr. Nicholas will explain the latest ruling and interpretations of the New Jersey Tax Department concerning New Jersey partnership filings, including e-filing and e-payments, apportionment of the partnership fee and withholding of nonresident partners.

Mr. Tipograph will speak on the new real property gains withholding requirement effective Sept. 1, 2003; the new withholding requirement on New York nonresident partners, members and shareholders effective Sept. 15, 2003; and the new LLC fees payable on Jan. 30, 2004.

The speakers will examine and critique the soon-to-be-released forms and instructions covering the new taxes.

The evening technical session will be held from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Society headquarters, located at 530 Fifth Ave., fifth floor, in New York City. Member fee: $45, nonmember fee: $50.
