August 2003 Affairs of Estate Estate planning expert Sanford Schlesinger, an attorney with Kaye Scholer Fierman, addressed attendees at the Foundation for Accounting Education’s Estate Planning Conference at the New York Marriott Marquis Hotel on July 17. Schlesinger discussed the impact of recent court cases and changes in tax law on how CPAs and other professionals in New York help their clients plan for the future. With changes in capital gains tax rates and other developments, Schlesinger challenged attendees to consider whether the basis on which they do estate planning “makes sense anymore.” Other presenters during the day-long conference talked about national trends and issues in the transfer tax, developments in the Internal Revenue Service’s E-filing program, and ethics and responsibility in estate planning, among other topics. More than 150 people attended the conference. Former NYSSCPA Estate Planning Committee chairs Susan R. Schoenfeld and Alan D. Kahn headed the event. |
