Society Invites Candidates for 2002 Nominating Committee

By Sharon Sabba Fierstein, CPA

Article IX of the New York State Society of CPAs bylaws contains the procedures for Nominating Committee selection. A copy of the bylaws can be obtained at www.nysscpa.org/society/bylaws.htm or by contacting Society staff.

The membership at large nominates seven Nominating Committee members, and the board of directors designates the remaining two members. Nominations for the seven members selected by the membership are made by filing a petition with the NYSSCPA secretary between Sept. 1 and the close of the first general meeting of the Society membership after Oct. 1 (scheduled this year for Nov. 15). Members can obtain a petition form by contacting Pat Borges at (212) 719-8302 or pborges@nysscpa.org.

Each petition must be signed by at least 10 members other than the nominee; nominating members must certify that the nominee would serve if elected. The signing members must have been members for at least five consecutive years.

A candidate for the Nominating Committee must not be a current member of the board of directors or a member of the Nominating Committee for either of the two preceding fiscal years. In addition, he or she must have been a member of the Society for at least five continuous years, including at least two years of committee participation.

Nominating Committee candidates should know that Nominating Committee members may not themselves be nominated by the committee for any position. The first meeting date for the 2002 Nominating Committee will be Jan. 17, 2002.

The following members are ineligible because of current membership on the board of directors or because of service on either the 2000 or the 2001 Nominating Committee:
