Calling All CPA Poets

By William Aiken Sr., CPA

The masses seem to think that it’s a contradiction to speak of CPAs and the arts in the same breath. I discovered this perception when I published a book of poetry earlier this year. Great surprise was expressed because of my profession—all the more reason that we use every forum available to share with the world our artistic skills.

Shortly after the New York State Society of CPAs approved the formation of the Manhattan/Bronx Chapter earlier this year, I was elected president of the chapter. Among the activities we are planning is a CPA Poets Night, to enable those among us who love poetry to come together from time to time to either present or listen to our colleagues’ “offerings.” Have you published a book of poetry or had a piece included in an anthology?

I would love to hear from members interested in forming poetry groups for presentations around the state of New York. What about regional reading events from time to time? How about a Poets Corner in The Trusted Professional? If such activities are of interest to you, please share your thoughts with me by e-mail: billpoetry@aol.com.

By the way, my book, Compelling Joy: A Poetic Journey Through Life, can be obtained through amazon.com or through the publisher, 1stBooks.com, or it can be ordered through your local bookstore.

In addition to serving as president of the Manhattan/Bronx Chapter, William Aiken Sr. is also a member of the Political Action Committee and the Insurance Companies and Agencies Committee.
