State Tax Commissioner Joins Society Committee

Arthur Roth, commissioner of the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance, is now a member of the NYSSCPA New York State, Municipal, and Local Taxation Committee. Committee Chair Stewart Buxbaum, who extended the invitation to join, said that the commissioner's participation on the committee is another example of his department's efforts to be taxpayer friendly through effective communication with the CPA profession. Buxbaum also stated that to his recollection, this is the first time a state tax commissioner has served on the committee.

Since becoming commissioner in May 1999, Roth has met with the committee and other Society members several times (pictured above in August 1999). He also has spoken at FAE's New York State Taxation and Small Business Taxation conferences. Roth is a former member of the Society's board of directors and was Northeast Chapter president in 1982-1983. He received the NYSSCPA Outstanding CPA in Government Award in 1998.
