Chambers Joins Society as Finance DirectorBy Wayne Whalen
"Lynn Chambers brings experience from the corporate and not-for-profit sectors, and her managerial ability is an asset that will significantly impact the Society," NYSSCPA Executive Director Louis Grumet said. "We are delighted to bring Lynn on board." Chambers oversees the Society's accounting department, with responsibility for all finance functions including cash handling procedures, payroll, accounts payable and receivable, and investments. Besides safeguarding member dues as a chief responsibility, one of her challenges is the conversion from quarterly to monthly financial reports to help the Society better implement and manage a strong budget system. "Monthly reports are definitely good for the organization to troubleshoot and stay ahead of any problems," she said. Formerly controller/treasurer for the Metropolitan Jewish Health System, Chambers was responsible for creating investment policies and reports and overseeing the installation of a automated time-keeping system for 4,000 employees. Prior employment included serving as corporate controller at the YMCA of Greater New York and as controller for YMS Management Associates. She also worked at the American Cancer Society for 10 years and was manager of accounting operations, and at U-Haul for eight years as a department manager. A Society member since 1993, Chambers has served on the Advancement of Women in the Accounting Profession, Chief Financial Officers, Health Care , and Not-for-Profit committees. She is a member of the AICPA, Treasury Management Association, and Institute of Management Accountants. Chambers has a master's of science in information technology and a bachelor's of science in accounting from Pace University. Born in South Dakota and raised in Arizona, California, Colorado, and Maryland, she said she has reversed her course from West to East to her new role as the Society's finance director. "I am privileged to be working at the Society," Chambers said. "My background and experience will allow me to contribute to a fabulous association staff serving an organization of trusted professionals." |
