Northeast Chapter
Golf Outing Gets Things Swinging

By Heather Drislane, KPMG, LLP

The Northeast Chapter hosted their annual golf outing on Monday, May 5. Over 90 members and bankers teed off at the Edison Club in Rexford, N.Y., marking an impressive 50 percent attendance increase from the 2001 golf outing.

The increase was surely a result of the efforts made by the New York State Society of CPAs’ Golf Committee, including:

Tom Chera, JPMorgan Chase
Ron Guzior, Bollam, Sheedy, Torani & Co.
Chris Heller, KPMG LLP
Derek Nolan, Merrill Lynch
Tim O’Connor, Marvin & Co.
Kevin O’Leary, Marvin & Co.
Jeff Rosenbaum, Urbach, Kahn & Werlin
Lynn Smith, Charter One Bank
Jim White, Capital Bank

We would like to thank the committee members for their dedication and hard work coordinating the event.

Special thanks also goes out to the many sponsors that contributed to the success of the outing. The sponsors include: JPMorgan Chase; Bollam, Sheedy, Torani & Co. LLP, CPAs; KPMG LLP; Merrill Lynch; Marvin & Co.; Urbach, Kahn & Werlin; Charter One Bank; Capital Bank; Key Bank, and Northway 8 Golf Shop.

The golfers were able to participate in several events, some walking away winners at the end of the day:

Men’s Scramble: Derek Nolan, Mark Beleah, John Stewart and Scott Hoffman
Mixed Scramble: Ray Maldonado, Dave Johnson, Diane Fuglein
Men’s Longest Drive: Bob Drislane

Women’s Longest Drive: Diane Fuglein
Closest to the Pin: Mike Paparian, Geoff Mueller, Rich Ahl
Putting Contest: Jim Wimmer, Bob Sherwood, Dean Geesler

The golf outing was a great day to break bread and soak up the sun while enjoying the game and the company of the many golfers who attended. The Northeast Chapter coordinates the golf outing annually in conjunction with the president’s installation ceremony. Jeff Rosenbaum, the chapter’s 2002-2003 president, passed the torch to Beth van Bladell, who will lead the Northeast Chapter for the 2003–2004 term. Read more about Beth’s plans to “communicate, educate, and advocate” in her “Message from the President” included in this issue of Chapter Newsletters.

Lastly, continue reading Chapter Newsletters to learn about other great events that are sponsored by the NYSSCPA’s Northeast Chapter. Here’s looking to an equally exciting golf outing next year.
