June 2003 Brooklyn Chapter By Patricia Wright, Brooklyn Chapter President We approach a year in which we face new challenges, changes in the profession and, above all, a year in which the members can make a difference in the community they serve by becoming active. The current economy, the recent attack on the accounting profession as a result of Enron, World Com and others, and the government dictating how we operate professionally necessitate that we stand up and defend the profession in which we all work so hard. I believe we are strong enough to fight on. I am therefore inviting each member of the Brooklyn Chapter to make a concerted effort to vigorously stand up in unison to foster strength, so that this honorable profession continues to exist as a beacon to young people, especially those who need mentoring. I encourage the business community to join forces with us in this endeavor so that the young men and women of Brooklyn and its environs will begin to chart their future in a direct and positive way. I also encourage newly certified CPAs to become a part of the chapter and bring fresh ideas that will ensure continuity in the profession. I in turn invite experienced CPAs, especially sole practitioners, CFOs, controllers and others involved in financial and accounting decisions, to share their wisdom. It is only when we actively share ideas that we can ensure the continuity and growth of our businesses. The NYSSCPA’s Brooklyn Chapter is our professional resource for a wonderful, honorable profession. Only when we keep this organization alive, through CPE seminars, business networking and social gatherings, can we ensure that we stay abreast of what is current. Do not pay your dues and stay away. Get involved and grow with us as we mentor and lead others to a great career. Please visit our chapter web page for upcoming activities by going to www.nysscpa.org and clicking on the “Find Chapters” link at the left of the page. |
