June 2003 ACFE Addresses Antifraud Needs in New York As the audit industry in forensic accounting continues to grow, so too does the added responsibility of staying more informed and capable of facing challenges such as fraud, according to experts. The Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE), a provider of antifraud training and educational tools, recognizes this responsibility as well as other evolving needs of its members, and as a result is expanding its training to more locations than ever before, including New York. “I first joined the ACFE in 1988 because I thought its inception was a novel idea,” said ACFE member Dr. Anthony Luizzo, CFE, president and CEO of L.C. Security Consulting Group, Inc., in New York and Florida. “We send auditors into the field, who are fresh out of college, to do very important work. We rely on colleges to teach them about fraud, but the truth is they need more focused training. That’s where the ACFE plays a crucial role.” With 28,000 members in more than 100 countries, the ACFE is dedicated to fighting fraud worldwide. Through its training events, the ACFE informs, supports and unites those engaged in fighting fraud and ensures that everyone receives top-quality training. New York will be home to multiple two-day ACFE training seminars, including “How to Testify” on June 26–27; “Tracing Illicit Funds” on Aug. 21–22; “Financial Statement Fraud” on Sept. 22–23, and “Professional Interviewing Skills” on Oct. 27–28. These instructor-led seminars are created for a wide audience of antifraud professionals, including CPAs, auditors, special investigators, loss prevention specialists, security professionals, business managers and educators. Since ACFE courses are approved by the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy, all attendees receive continuing professional education credit, further enhancing their professional education. “All of our professional societies need to build ACFE programs into their training cadre because we all need to have a solid foundation of fraud expertise,” Dr. Luizzo said. “Especially since it is becoming a growing concern on everyone’s mind.”
