Society Leaders Take Office
Alongside President P. Gerard Sokolski (see article above), the following 20002001 NYSSCPA officers began their terms on June 1:
President-Elect Nancy Newman-Limata is a partner with PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP in Stamford, Conn. Newman-Limata joined the Society in 1984 and just completed terms as vice president for chapter operations, chair of the Chapter Relations Committee, and a member of the FAE board of trustees and Committee Operations, Executive, and Finance committees. In addition, she has served as chair of the Advancement of Women in the Accounting Profession, Cooperation with Financial Media, and Financing and Leasing Companies committees; a member of the Advisory Committee on Appointments, General Committee on Accounting and Auditing, General Committee on Public Relations, and Membership Task Force; and a member of the Annual Conference, Auditing Standards and Procedures, Banking, Financial Accounting Standards, and SEC Practice committees.
Vice President David L. Evans is a partner with Urbach Kahn & Werlin PC in Albany. Evans joined the Society in 1984 and just completed a three-year term on the board of directors. In addition, he has served as chair of the Tax Division Executive Committee; and a member of the Alternative Tax Systems Task Force; Consolidated Returns, Affiliated, and Related Corporations; Committee Operations; and Estate Planning committees. Evans received the 19941995 FAE Outstanding Discussion Leader Award.
Vice President Jo Ann Golden is partner-in-charge of Jo Ann Golden CPA PC in Herkimer. Golden joined the Society in 1992 and also currently is a government relations director. She just completed terms as secretary; and member of the Committee Operations, Executive, and Finance committees. In addition, she has served as chair of the Minority Group Recruitment and Equal Opportunity Committee and a member of the Chapter Relations Committee and General Committee on Public Relations. She is active in the Utica Chapter and has served as career day liaison and Public Relations Committee chair.
Vice President John Joseph Kearney is a partner with Israeloff Trattner & Co. CPAs PC in Valley Stream. Kearney joined the Society in 1989 and currently is a government relations director, chair of the Tax Division Oversight Committee, and a member of the Task Force on Professional Liability Insurance. In addition, he has served on the board of directors, as chair of the Alternative Tax Systems Task Force and the Taxation of Individuals Committee, and as a member of the Executive and Annual Conference committees. He is the immediate past president of the Nassau Chapter and previously held numerous other leadership positions. Kearney received the 19941995 FAE Outstanding Discussion Leader Award.
Vice President Thomas E. Riley is a partner with The Fagliarone Group PC in Syracuse. Riley joined the Society in 1982 and currently is a government relations director. He just completed a three-year term on the board of directors as well as serving as a member of the Finance, Chapter Relations, and Estate Planning committees. In addition, he has served on the General Committee on Public Relations; Chapter Operations; Community Affairs; and New York State, Municipal, and Local Taxation committees. He is active in the Syracuse Chapter, having served as its president and in other leadership positions.
Secretary Sharon Sabba Fierstein is vice president of PW Funding Inc. in Mineola. Fierstein joined the Society in 1985 and just completed terms as chair of the Finance Committee and as a member of the FAE board of trustees and the Committee on Committee Operations. In addition, she has served on the board of directors; as chair of Advancement of Women in the Accounting Profession Committee and co-chair of the Interactive Online Resource Committee; and as a member of the General Committee on Members in Public Practice, and Annual Conference, Chief Financial Officers, and Executive committees.
Treasurer Ronald Benjamin is partner-in-charge with Mitchell & Titus LLP in New York City. Benjamin joined the Society in 1980 and also served as 19992000 treasurer. He just completed terms as a member of the Committee Operations, Executive, and Finance committees. In addition, he has served on the board of directors and as vice president; chair of the Exempt Organizations and Not-for-Profit Organizations committees; and member of the Audit and Health Care committees. *
