Understanding the Implications of Open Source Environments
Their Impact on Financial Statement Control Risk, Cost and Productivity

By Bruce H. Nearon

Computing-hungry industries allow the open source community to proliferate interfaces, databases, environments and embedded environments. Generally, risks associated with such environments are considered high, but is such an assessment justifiable?

Learn about the unknown strengths and weaknesses of open source computing by attending the June 10 continuing professional education (CPE) morning presentation organized by the New York State Society of CPAs’ Technology Assurance Committee. Cost, productivity and risks will be considered, as will the following issues:

  • Overview of the open source product;
  • Specialized knowledge requirements;
  • Service customization;
  • Viruses and worms; and
  • Maintenance and monitoring

Time: 8:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.: registration, networking, free continental breakfast; 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.: CPE session
