NYSSCPA.org Enjoys Record Month

By Craig Mandelbaum, Website Editor

Driven by last-minute tax filers, the Enron situation and a new design, the New York State Society of CPAs website—www.nysscpa.org—experienced a record-setting month this April for number of hits to the site.

April’s most significant milestone was 3,058,535 hits—the first time the site has eclipsed the three million mark. A hit is defined as a single file that is transferred to a Web browser, such as a .jpg or .gif file. On April 4 alone, the site recorded a single-day record of 262,383 hits.

In all, the site went over 100,000 hits on 18 of the 30 days in April, and over 95,000 on three more.

The site enjoyed a particularly good day on tax day, when people were most likely coming to the site to download last-minute tax forms. On April 15, the site recorded 5,362 visits, a single-day record and the first time more than 5,000 visits were recorded for one day. A visit is defined as a series of consecutive views of a website by the same user, usually for more than a 30-minute span.

Other notable figures for April include more than 700,000 hits a week for the first time, almost 700,000 pages viewed and more than 100,000 estimated visits for the month. April also saw a marked increase in weekend numbers, with more than 50,000 hits recorded on Saturdays and Sundays for the first time.
