Putting Together the Bits and Pieces with Computer Forensics

By Bruce H. Nearon

If a client called you about suspected fraud, illegal activities, or misuse involving their computers and wanted your assistance what would you do?

The procedures you may be asked to perform, in this case, may be computer forensics. Are you qualified to perform computer forensic services? Do you understand what computer forensics are?

The objective of computer forensics is to identify possible legal evidence with procedures and analysis involving information stored on computers and actions and events related to computers. Does your client suspect that unauthorized changes have been made to critical data? Is a disgruntled employee suspected of destroying data? Has confidential information been compromised? In all of these cases, a client may need computer forensic services.

Computer crime and abuse is growing. Should you add computer forensics to your service offerings? When should you engage a computer forensics specialist? What do you have to know to become a computer forensic specialist? Learn all about computer forensics at this upcoming New York State Society of CPAs Emerging Technologies Committee continuing professional education (CPE) presentation.
