Come to Sunny Buffalo!By Mark J. Koziel, CPAContrary to popular belief, it does not snow year round in Buffalo. In fact, during the summer months, the sun shines, the waterfront is breezy, and everyone basks in the wonderful weather. That is why we chose to hold the Buffalo Young CPAs Forum in July. The forum will take place July 12–13, but there will be plenty for our out-of-town guests to do the week of the big event. Arrive Wednesday, July 11, and receive free shuttle service from the hotel to Casino Niagara in Niagara Falls, Ontario. Here, you can also experience the thunderous Niagara Falls—one of the world’s natural wonders. The falls are an especially awesome spectacle at night. On Thursday nights during the summer, the city hosts “Thursday in the Square,” a free outdoor musical experience featuring popular bands from the area. Ellicott Square is just two blocks from the Hyatt Regency, the forum site. Plenty of food and beverage are available for a minimal charge. Be sure to experience the active weekend nightlife in downtown Buffalo by heading to the Chippewa Strip, home to numerous bars and restaurants. There’s something on the strip for everyone, and it’s only a few blocks from the hotel. (Please note: There will be an 11:00 p.m. curfew to make sure everyone is fresh for the morning sessions. Only kidding, of course!) For those power shoppers in the group, the Walden Galleria houses more than 200 retailers, including department stores and specialty shops. Or, for something unique, head to Elmwood Avenue, known for its many one-of-a-kind shops. Other attractions include the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, Buffalo Science Museum, Buffalo Historical Society, Buffalo Naval and Military Park, Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural Site, and Frank Lloyd Wright’s Darwin Martin House, just to name a few. Buffalo brochures will be available when you check in Wednesday. Our goal is for members to participate in a quality program and to experience a city they may not otherwise get a chance to visit. Articles in the February and March editions of The Trusted Professional explained the benefits of attending this program, but here is a final reason: Your chapter can host this event in the future. If the program is successful, we plan to hold it annually with a different chapter hosting the event each year. Each chapter should be proud of its city or town, and each chapter has a uniqueness that it should want to share with the other chapters. The Buffalo Young CPAs Committee is proud of Buffalo, and we look forward to showing it off. Please join us in Buffalo this July. For registration information, see the course listings beginning on page 21 of this newspaper, visit the Buffalo Chapter section of www.nysscpa.org, or call (800) 537-3635. Hotel accommodations include a block of rooms at the Hyatt Regency reserved for only $109 per night, single or double occupancy. To get the special rate, call the hotel at (800) 233-1234 and mention that you are attending the FAE Young CPAs Forum. Don’t miss out on this special event! w Mark J. Koziel, of Dopkins & Co. LLP, is chair of the Buffalo Young CPAs Committee. |
