Society Announces Award Winners

At its Annual Election Meeting and Dinner on May 3, the NYSSCPA announced the winners of this year's member awards:

Francis T. Nusspickel received the NYSSCPA Distinguished Service Award, which recognizes members for their outstanding contributions to the Society and the profession. Nusspickel, a partner at Arthur Andersen LLP, is a past Society president and has held numerous other leadership positions. He currently serves on AICPA Council and the Society's Committee on Committee Operations and chairs the Leadership Academy.

Lawrence J. Waldman received the Arthur J. Dixon Public Service Award, which recognizes outstanding contributions to the community. Waldman, a partner at KPMG LLP, is active in many charitable causes and serves on committees of the American Heart Association, Long Island Philharmonic, National Center for Disability Services, Nassau County Association for Help of Retarded Children, and other organizations.

The Society awarded its Outstanding CPA in Industry Award to Neville Grusd and its Dr. Emanuel Saxe Outstanding CPA in Education Award to Neale Kurlander in recognition of their contributions in industry and academia. Grusd, executive vice president at Merchant Financial Corp., currently chairs the Society's new Industry Oversight Committee, serves on the Chief Financial Officers Committee, and has served as chair or member of numerous other committees.

Kurlander is a professor in Adelphi University's accounting and law department, which he chaired from 1973 to 1982. He has served on several NYSSCPA committees at both the chapter and statewide levels.
