Personal Development Courses Now on eMind.com

By LaShekia Chatman

eMind Logo Internet-based continuing education provider and NYSSCPA affinity partner eMind.com now offers 18 personal development courses, such as Sexual Harassment: A Guide to Prevention, Team Problem-Solving, Goals and Goal Setting, Personal Time Management, Managing Personal Change, Developing Positive Assertiveness, and Assessing Your Leadership Skills.

"These basic online courses, which now qualify for CPE credit in New York state, are a fast and user-friendly way for any financial professional to help meet the increasing needs and demands of their clients or employers," NYSSCPA Director of Operations Alan Schmelkin said. "With the introduction of these personal development courses, eMind.com takes a holistic approach to meeting the needs of today's financial professionals by instructing them on ways to better manage and enjoy what can sometimes be stressful and demanding careers."

Each course, which includes various lessons and subtopics, features a progress review at the end of each lesson and culminates with a mastery test covering the entire course. For example, in Project Management: From Idea to Implementation, the user learns project planning step-by-step, focusing on topics such as the typical activity levels during project life-cycle phases. Managing Stress offers advice on how to identify, remedy, and avoid stress in both work and personal life.

Society members can review the first lesson of any course by accessing it from www.nysscpa.emind.com. Online courses offer flexibility in scheduling that is an alternative to traditional courses. Users can access eMind.com programs with a desktop computer 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and have the advantage of stopping and beginning coursework at their leisure.

In addition to the personal development offerings, CPAs can currently access courses in taxation, accounting and auditing, management, computer programs, and specialized industries--including recently added courses in financial services and securities. The Knowledge Hub on eMind.com allows CPAs to keep track of course details such as field of study, CPE credit, and completion date for any CPE program they take, not just online programs. Users also can bookmark the online programs to do coursework as time permits.

Under New York state regulations, CPAs only receive 50 percent credit for self-study. As a result, eMind.com offers a 50 percent discount off its regular prices for CPAs meeting New York state CPE requirements. To receive the discount, CPAs need to enter YIPINY in the discount code field when they register. If a CPA has already registered, the Society recommends updating his or her record to reflect this discount code.

Members can receive full CPE credits, however, to satisfy AICPA membership requirements and to meet CPE requirements of other state boards of accountancy. Registrants who are licensed in other states should check with their respective state boards of accountancy for self-study requirements. Most state board websites are accessible through www.nysscpa.org.

In its continuing program expansion, eMind.com expects to offer more than 500 courses by the end of the year. For a list of current eMind.com online programs, visit www.nysscpa.emind.com. *
