State Senators Introduce Bill to Update Accountancy Law
New York state Senators Kenneth P. LaValle (Suffolk) and Nicholas A. Spano
(Westchester) introduced a bill on April 5 to amend the current laws
that establish and regulate the public accountancy profession in the
state.

Foundotos Advances Board's View at AICPA Meetings
NYSSCPA President
George T. Foundotos (Suffolk) attended four AICPA regional council
meetings in March to lobby for updates to professional standards to
permit "internal use only" statements, a view advocated by
the Society's board of directors.

The National Association of State Boards of Accountancy Qualification
Appraisal Board recently evaluated the equivalency of all 54 licensing
jurisdictions with regard to the education, examination, and experience
requirements of the Uniform Accountancy Act. Twenty-two states met the substantially
equivalent criteria. New York did not meet the criteria for
education and examination.
