AICPA to Propose Internet IPO

By Danielle D'Angelo

At the AICPA's March 30 regional Council meeting in New York City, President Barry Melancon discussed plans to spin off some of the Institute's operations into separate corporations, including an Internet portal that could become an initial public offering.

Currently known as CPA2Biz.com, the portal would offer education and information resources for CPAs, other financial professionals, and the public. Services could include networks to link CPAs with prospective clients, employers, and vendors. The AICPA compared its plans to Healtheon/WebMD, an Internet portal for the medical profession and healthcare community.

If AICPA Council approves the portal concept at its May meeting, the Institute will move forward with its plans for a public offering.
