State Bar President to Speak at Annual Conference

Panel Will Discuss Multidisciplinary Practices

By Danielle D'Angelo

Thomas O. Rice, president of the 67,000-member New York State Bar Association, will participate in a panel on multidisciplinary practices at the NYSSCPA Annual Conference to take place June 36 at the Seaview Marriott in Absecon, N.J.

Rice, a partner in the Brooklyn and Long Islandbased law firm Wingate, Kearney & Cullen, will discuss the concerns of the legal profession if accountants and other nonattorneys are permitted to partner and share fees with attorneys.

"Whether or not to permit MDPs is one of the hottest issues confronting the accounting and legal professions," NYSSCPA President Alan E. Weiner said. "Tom and I have met on the topic several times, and I am sure his insight will be of great interest to our members."

Rice will join fellow panel members Dan Goldwasser, NYSSCPA legal counsel and a partner with Vedder Price Kaufman & Kammholz, and Society MDP team members Avery Neumark, a partner with Rosen Seymour Shapss Martin & Co. LLP, and Francis T. Nusspickel, a partner with Arthur Andersen LLP. The session will take place Sunday morning, June 4, following the conference's plenary session.
