May Show to Feature Top SpeakersFAE's 2000 CPAs' Finance, Business and Technology Show and Conference, to take place at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City on May 1012, will give participants the opportunity to learn about an array of topics pertinent to the accounting profession from some of the most distinguished professionals dealing with financial matters today. NYSSCPA Member Relations Division Director Lorrie Lamazor receives hundreds of comments from CPE course attendees throughout the year. Their feedback influences the choice of speakers invited to lecture during FAE's annual show. "CPE participants at the show get a chance to be exposed to high-caliber speakers," Lamazor said. "These stars will all be there, in one arena. Mark Klein, for example, is one of the top experts on New York state taxation. He has spoken all over the state." Other speakers include Stewart Buxbaum for New York State Sales Tax Update, and Edward A. Slott on distribution planning techniques. "Ed Slott is the foremost expert on IRA distribution planning," Lamazor said. "Stew Buxbaum is the sales tax guru for New York state." In addition to taxation and distribution planning, CPE participants at the show will have the opportunity to explore timely issues such as the role of technology in industry or public practice and how to establish a litigation support or financial services practice. Scott Lobel will inform attendees how they can use intranets, remote access technology, and virtual assistants to their clients' or companies' advantage in one session, and in another session will offer updates on the latest technological resources that have created the accounting profession's newest business opportunities. Basil A. Imburgia and Glenn Pomerantz will provide a comprehensive overview of what to look for in a diversified litigation support practice, how to identify the most active litigation support areas, and how to establish a successful practice in litigation support. John Gill will discuss how to retain clients instead of referring them to outside stockbrokers by building a financial services practice. "Developing a Turnaround Practice," a debut course featuring Robert S. Rosenfeld, will examine the warning signs of corporate distress and explore the accountant's role in working a company through its financial and operational turnaround. Although the 2000 CPAs' Finance, Business and Technology Show and Conference attracts many attendees because of the CPE it offers, the show also provides an opportunity to examine and purchase the latest accounting and software products designed for CPAs. In addition, attendees can meet their peers and establish professional relationships, visit exhibits, and enjoy raffles and other sponsored events.
