Nassau Chapter Makes Plans for CFO Committee

By Kim Patterson, Industry Member Relations Coordinator

The New York State Society of CPAs’ Nassau Chapter has founded a CFO and Senior Financial Officers Committee as part of the chapter’s efforts to reach out to the many local CPAs in industry.

Chapter members met on Dec. 18 in Uniondale, N.Y., to discuss plans for the committee in the coming year.

Though the meeting did not draw large numbers, the chapter leaders, including President Eric Kramer, President-Elect Richard Zerah and Committee Chair Paul L. Shaw, attended, showing strong support for the concept. The group discussed members’ expectations for the committee, agreeing that its goal should be to provide members with the opportunity to enhance their professional skills.

With more than 1,500 industry members in the Nassau Chapter, the committee hopes to attract additional members and have full registration for its upcoming programs.

The programs include a series of roundtable discussions on topics such as cost-cutting efforts, pension plans and banking and insurance issues, with one-hour continuing professional education credit available.

The first roundtable discussion is scheduled for March 2003. Until the committee can assess what is most convenient for the members, the meetings will alternate between breakfast and dinner meetings.

Committee Chairman Shaw stated he became involved in the Nassau Chapter because he believes the Society can do more to service industry members.

“The formation of this committee is an outreach effort to ensure industry members can benefit from knowledge networking and information sharing,” he said.
