Staten Island Chapter Makes the Most of Year 2000
By Walter Daszkowski, President
This past year, the Staten Island/Brooklyn Chapter made a concerted effort to increase membership in our organization, increase the value associated with membership, and enhance our image in the community. In order to achieve these goals, we held a number of new and exciting events, participated in highly visible public affairs activities, and publicized (both internally and externally) our successes.
These achievements included a series of CPE sessions and a tax conference (to be held annually) that addressed topics of a significant interest to the membership. We also stepped up efforts to offer unique networking opportunities to our members. One recent event included a mixer with local bankers, attorneys, and other professionals. Future events will include both social and business gatherings with representatives from other fields.
The Staten Island/Brooklyn Chapter is also active in charitable work and helping the community. For example, the chapter recently held a “Bowl-A-Thon” to benefit the Staten Island Children’s Campaign. Members participated in the event that helped a deserving charity perform good work.
We plan to continue helping worthy causes in the future. Not only did our chapter and its members benefit from helping others through community projects and events, we also received the added value of recognition for our endeavors, being mentioned in several area newspapers.
Given the amount of hard work that went into these deeds, we also toiled to produce a timely newsletter that recognizes the efforts of our board and officers. Additionally, we believe our member publication is very useful, promoting our actions on behalf of the profession and providing members with up-to-date information.
We certainly are looking forward to the new millennium and to the challenges of the upcoming tax season, and we hope that by working hard to reach our goals the chapter will have a promising future.
