Yipinet Increases Online CPE Offerings
New Courses in Taxation and Other Areas
Yipinet, a provider of Internet-based learning and the NYSSCPA's online CPE affinity partner, has added more than 20 new courses since November, increasing the current number of its online offerings to more than 100. "Society members who first registered for Yipinet courses last November had around 80 programs to choose from," Director of Operations Alan Schmelkin said. "To see the number jump up to more than 100 in a few months just goes to show how responsive Yipinet is to the needs of the accounting and financial professional." Yipinet added a variety of programs, from accounting and auditing to personal development. New taxation courses include Tax Consequences of Divorce: Property Settlements, which covers topics including IRC Section 1041 on property settlements, holding periods, and recordkeeping requirements, and Taxation of Wealth Transfers, which focuses on the basic concepts of valuing transfers of wealth and the tax consequences of gratuitous wealth transfers. "A majority of the new courses deal with advanced taxation issues," Schmelkin said. "There are numerous courses dealing with consolidations, employee benefits, estates and trusts, partnerships and LLCs, and S corporations. And they couldn't have come at a better time, with tax season upon us." Other offerings include introductory, intermediate, and advanced courses on Subchapter C and an introductory course on Subchapter J. Schmelkin explained the value of programs that CPAs can take on their own time. "Online CPE allows us to take highly specialized programs without scheduling them for a specific time," Schmelkin said. "This gives members greater flexibility--in addition to the great variety of CPE online as Yipinet continues to expand its offerings." Visit http://www.nysscpa.yipinet.com to access online courses in taxation, accounting and auditing, management, personal development, and specialized industries. Members can view course descriptions for all online programs. There also is a link at the top of the home page of http://www.nysscpa.org. Yipinet is a NASBA-approved provider of interactive self-study (ID #105587) as well as a New York state-approved provider of CPE. Under New York state regulations, CPAs may only receive 50 percent credit for self-study, rounded down for courses qualifying for odd hours of credit (i.e., an online program worth three hours of CPE credit would only qualify for one hour in New York state, and a two-hour program would be worth only one hour). As a result, Yipinet offers a 50 percent discount off its regular prices for Society members meeting CPE requirements in New York state. To receive the discount, members need to enter the code, YIPINY, in "discount code" field on the Yipinet registration page. Participants can, however, apply the full number of CPE credits displayed toward membership requirements for the AICPA. Registrants who are licensed in other states should check with their respective state boards of accountancy. Please see pages 2527 of this newspaper for a detailed explanation of this regulation, as well as a complete listing of online CPE programs from Yipinet. * |
