About the New FAE Officers New officers elected by the Foundation for Accounting Education’s Board of Trustees in July bring together a collective 75 years of experience as CPAs and demonstrated involvement in accounting education, the profession at large and in their communities. FAE President Arthur Bloom was a FAE Trustee once before, from 1994 to 1997, and has been a member of the NYSSCPA since 1972. He has served on numerous Society bodies, including the Board of Directors, for which he served as treasurer; the Executive Committee; the Nominating Committee, and others. In the past, he has served as chair of the Finance Committee, the Local Practitioners and Small Firms Committee, and the Closely Held and S Corporations Committee. Bloom, a Bronx resident, is a partner with Marks Paneth and Shron LLP in New York City, and has served as treasurer of the Riverdale YM/YWHA and vice president of the Hebrew Institute of Riverdale. He received his BA in accounting from Queens College and his MBA in taxation from Baruch College. He lives with his wife, Elaine, and has three children, Chani Nathan (nee Bloom), Avi and Shana. Gail Kinsella, a resident of Syracuse and the FAE Board’s new president-elect, joined the New York State Society of CPAs in 1991 and has been a FAE Trustee since 2004. She has sat on the COAP Le Moyne Advisory Board and currently is the president of the Society’s Syracuse Chapter, for which she has also served as treasurer and vice president. Kinsella, a partner with Testone, Marshall & Discenza, LLP, is also the treasurer for United Way of Central New York and the Board Chair for Hospice and Palliate Care Associates of Central New York, where she is also a past president. She received her B.S. in accounting from Le Moyne College and lives with her husband, Tom, and her nine-year-old son, Tommy. Scott Jaffee, FAE’s treasurer, joined the Society in 1989 and has been a FAE trustee since 2005. He is a member of the Society’s Chief Financial Officers Committee, and has sat on the Community Affairs Committee and Financial Executives in Closely Held Companies Committee. Jaffee, a controller with Flemming, Zulack & Williamson, LLP, is a resident of New York City. In his community, Jaffee has served as treasurer for the Parent Teacher Association of the New York City Lower Lab School, and as treasurer for the Albert Apartment Corporation. He earned his BS in accounting and computer applications and information systems from the NYU Stern School of Business. He lives with his wife, Jacqueline Samuel-Jaffee, and their sons, Zachary, 10, and Ethan, 3. Peter Maier has been a member of the NYSSCPA since 1995 and a FAE Trustee since 2005. The new FAE secretary has also serves as treasurer and secretary of the Finger Lakes Chapter, where he has also chaired the budget committee. He has also been chapter delegate to the CPA PAC. Maier, a partner with the Elmira, N.Y., firm of Kirby Beal Maier, CPAS, PLLC, is a resident of Corning, N.Y., where he lives with his wife, Cindy. He volunteers with several not-for-profit organizations in his area, including the local councils of Boy Scouts of America and Girl Scouts of America, and the local Rotary Club. He has an MBA from Cornell University’s Johnson Graduate School and a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. |
