Keeping Strong Leadership

Well, the baseball trading deadline has passed, and while the rumors were hot and heavy, overall it was pretty quiet. Hockey is back, which is something to look forward to over the winter, and the accounting profession continues to undergo change.

People tell me all the time that change is good, and while for the most part I agree, it can also be daunting. It seems that every time I pick up a paper or attend a training seminar there are new issues and new opportunities for accountants. It’s amazing how many people are much more cognizant of the need for tighter controls within their companies and organizations.

We have strong leadership here in Suffolk—leadership that is concerned with ensuring that our membership, whether in practice or in industry, has access to information that will help them stay on the cutting edge of this change and ahead of the curve. Committees are working diligently to put together informative programs, run by top-notch speakers, but we continue to need help. We urge everyone to get involved.

We have a lot coming up during September. On Sept. 14, we have our annual Town Hall Meeting, with the officers from the State Society coming down to talk about what’s happening at the state level. In addition, we will be offering our members a free 2-hour ethics seminar. Sept. 22 is the Young CPAs 10th Annual Professional Golf Classic, with partial proceeds benefiting the Thomas Hartman Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.

As we do every year, we are offering a subscription plan that entitles members to attend six chapter events throughout the year, for the one low price of $149. Education, fun, food, networking, camaraderie: who can ask for anything more.
