Renewing Activity

By Christine Paul, Northeast Chapter President

As I write this message in August with 90+ degree weather outside, it is hard to imagine that in just a couple of weeks summer will be over and the cooler autumn air will be returning. Although most people hate to see the warmer weather disappear for what seems like an eternity, September brings about some renewed activity, such as the school year, football, and the majority of the chapter’s activities. Please note our chapter’s calendar of events so you can pencil in the dates.

One of our chapter’s goals has been to “communicate, educate, and advocate for our members.” This goal is much easier to achieve when we have active members from a variety of practices and private industries within our chapter. From my experience, there are a core group of firms and industries that participate on committees and the board but many more that attend events such as the Banker’s Dinner and Golf Outing and FAE sessions. With the voices of representatives from different firms and industries, we are better able to tailor programming and communication to the interests of all our members.

The NYSSCPA already offers many services to our members, but why not make the most of your membership. Become active and have a voice in how your chapter serves you. As you begin to fill your calendar for the fall, please check your availability to participate in the chapter. If you cannot make the commitment this year, please continue to attend the events and reconsider the possibility of participation for next year. Please also encourage staff members who are not currently members of the NYSSCPA to join and participate. The more active members we have, the greater the benefits the Society can provide.

I hope you will join me on Sept. 27 for the Ethics Seminar followed by the Town Hall Dinner. As always, if you have any questions or comments, please contact me.
