Renegades Baseball Game a Home Run By Jeffrey Schwartz, Westchester Chapter President Picture this. After so many recent days in the upper 90s with insane humidity, there is a day with bright sunshine, a cool breeze, the smell of a freshly cut lawn. Add to that a minor league baseball game that costs only $6 and a spectacular fireworks show that follows, and you get a great recent Westchester chapter event. Let me begin by thanking Anne Colucci, who organized the event and even hand-delivered the tickets. To recap the game, the Renegades went up 4–0 after the first two innings. Quite surprising, since many of them had batting averages in the 100s. Their number-three hitter was their best, at .270. Not much of an offensive machine, they are known for their great pitching this year. After five or six innings, the score was tied at 5 until the Batavia Muckdogs scored in the top of the 9th to break the tie. I must admit my wife was quite pleased that someone broke the tie and the game would not go into extra innings. The Renegades had no answer and lost the game in front of a sell-out crowd. My family has now attended four Renegades games with the chapter and my son has come home with a ball in three of them. The one game he wasn’t able to get a ball, a player tossed him some bubble gum. He has it down to a science. Perhaps one day I’ll let you in on his method. It is simple, yet quite impressive. The fireworks show began about three minutes later, and what a show it was. So many bright colors in the sky—it was great. The Renegades always do a great job with the fireworks, but they outdid themselves this year. The minor-league game is about entertaining the fans, and between innings there are some fun (and goofy) things going on. It is great for the entire family. I hope next year you will decide to join the chapter at the game. As always, if you have any questions, comments or issues, please contact me at jschwartz@blausteinllp.com. I look forward to hearing from you. |
