Message From the President By Robert J. Schaffer, Nassau Chapter President I am now well into my year as president of the Nassau Chapter. I have been busy helping to plan exciting events, including some ambitious goals for the coming year. Thanks for everyone’s help in working on these plans with me. I am sure by now most of you have heard of the passing of Sam Traum. In addition to what was in The Trusted Professional in July, we will be honoring Sam in our September Nassau Chapter Newsletter. He was an amazing individual, who was dedicated to the Society and the profession for 50 years. Please look for the tribute in our September newsletter. As I am sure most of you have heard, we had an exciting time at the leadership conference in Lake George in July. We must show the public that we have overcome some of the problems that came to light over the past few years and that ethics are a top priority for us. We are having a cruise this month, sponsored by our Young CPAs Committee, that is being planned jointly with the Manhattan/Bronx and Suffolk chapters. There will be plenty of food, drinks, networking and fun. For more information, please contact Ed Behar at 516-942-7600 or ebehar@optonline.net. Our Annual 5K Run/Walk is set for Sept. 23 at Eisenhower Park and is sponsored by the Community Affairs and Public Relations Committee. We need sponsors and runners. Look for more information in the September newsletter or via e-mail. You can contact Roy Massa with specific questions, at 212-696-4800, ext. 219, or roymassa@yahoo.com. We are looking for mentors for our successful mentor program. If anyone is interested in being a mentor, please contact Gail Linder at 631-462-1213 or Gail.Linder@liu.edu. We have just started a Membership Committee, which is being chaired by Lisa Haynie (516-488-1200) and Ellen Gordon (516-747-2000, ext. 303). Please contact them if you are interested in assisting with this initiative. A task force has been created to bring programs to young CPAs and others so that they can learn about useful topics not normally covered by CPE programs. Call Karen Tenenbaum (631-465-5000) if you are interested in this program. We also have some
exciting events coming up in the fall. Please look for them and participate
in as many of them as possible. Robert J. Schaffer can be reached at 516-336-2408 or rschaffer@grassicpas.com. |
