A Chapter Grows in Brooklyn

By Warren M. Bergstein, Brooklyn Chapter President

The seeds for the growth of the young Brooklyn Chapter were planted by my three extraordinary predecessors. Philip Wolitzer continued his invaluable service to the State Society by helping to launch the chapter. Myrna Fischman has given her usual dedication and commitment well beyond the call of duty. And I follow a very tough act, the two-year leadership of Patricia Wright.

During Pat’s tenure, we had a full program of guest speakers, all well-attended. The all-day IRS conference, with Phil and Myrna again on active duty, was a huge success and continued to build strong goodwill with representation from the government sector. The COAP program was held at Long Island University and was a tremendous success, and finally a number of volunteer efforts were enhanced.

The new board of directors (and, of course, Myrna, Phil and Pat) are back on the Executive Committee, are energetic and have planned another strong calendar of events for this year. Education, social events, volunteer efforts and working to coach young CPAs are high on the list. We have been assured of unending support by the Society leadership, and I look forward to working with Stephen Langowski as he begins his tenure as Society president, and the society staff, whom we are looking to for their usual extraordinary support.

Yes, we are a relatively young chapter, but we are already a force in the community. Brooklyn and Lower Manhattan practitioners utilize our meetings for their CPE and Ethics credits, speakers request the opportunity to address our membership and members volunteer for COAP, High School Outreach, and various charitable endeavors.

I look forward to continuing the effort to give Brooklyn CPAs a chapter to be proud of.
