Message From the President
By Joe Falbo, Buffalo Chapter President

July is here and things are supposed to be a little slower at work. This may be true, but we all know the days of a “slow” or “down” season are long gone. This is no different for the NYSSCPA. Numerous members within our chapter have been very busy planning events for this year.

This month we will have the chapter’s second annual Summer Symposium, July 27 and 28, at the Sheraton Four Points on Walden Avenue. The committee has been working extremely hard to bring a two-day program that will appeal to CPAs in both public practice and industry.

The first day will offer four sessions, with two courses per session to select from. The second day will offer two sessions dedicated to accounting and auditing updates. We are offering one- or two-day pricing, so you may take as many hours of CPE as you would like. We are also very pleased to announce that Erie County Comptroller Nancy Naples has agreed to be our lunch speaker for the first day.

Visit the Buffalo Chapter on the web for more details at www.nysscpa.org/chapters.html, or feel free to contact me directly.

As I mentioned last month, we will also hold member breakfasts throughout the chapter to find out how to better serve our members. This initiative was kicked off with a very productive meeting in Niagara Falls in June. The next meeting is scheduled for July 16 at the Original Pancake house on Main Street in Williamsville. This will be followed up with a meeting on August 18, at a location in the downtown Buffalo area to be announced.

A detailed schedule of dates and locations may be found at the Buffalo site. I encourage everyone to think about attending a meeting. I guarantee it to be completely painless, and it will take less than 90 minutes of your day. To ask questions about or attend an upcoming breakfast, please feel free to contact me at any time.

While it may seem like a long time away, I wanted to take a minute to mention the 51st Annual Tax Institute. This year’s Institute will be held on Nov. 18 and 19. Yes, that’s correct, November. Those of you that have attended in the past are used to a December date, so I wanted to give you time to adjust your schedules. Another slight change in the format will provide a full day of CPE on the first day, with a half day on Friday.

I hope everyone has a safe and relaxing summer.
