The Next Chapter

By Judy Seidman, Manhattan/Bronx Chapter Incoming President

I am honored to have been elected as President of the society’s largest chapter for fiscal year 2005–2006. I have been involved with the Society for over five years. My initial involvement was with the Young CPA Committee when it was at a statewide level. When the six new chapters were formed in 2001, that committee was transferred to the individual chapters. I attended the planning meetings for the Manhattan/Bronx chapter and was asked to serve on the board when the chapter was officially formed on June 1, 2001. Within a year, a Young CPA Committee was formed, and I served as its chair for over two years. The rest is history.

My first task as the new President of the Manhattan/Bronx chapter will be to pay tribute to Barry Doll, who served as President of the chapter this past year. He has really made some significant strides in developing the chapter. He will be a tough act to follow.

I would also like to express appreciation to the board members who will not be continuing on with the chapter. Also, I would like to welcome our new board members, Pei-Cen Lin and Barbara O’Connell, and congratulate the nominating committee on a job well done.

We have an exciting year planned for you: networking events, social events, seminars, Young CPA events and more!

I view this coming year as the “next chapter” for our chapter. We will continue the story with all kinds of activities, and we will look to have a happy ending.

Being involved with the chapter has been a wonderful experience for me professionally and personally, and I hope that some of you will be as lucky as I have been. There are plenty of opportunities to get involved, at whatever level is comfortable for you, even if it just means attending our events.

Here’s a sneak preview of what we have to come:

We have a scotch tasting coming up on June 22, generously sponsored by Dewar’s 12.

On July 18, the Annual Golf and Tennis Classic will take place at the Elmwood Country Club.

Please check our Web site for details.

Stay tuned for updates regarding other upcoming events as we finalize the planning details.
