Queens Chapter Looks to Future

By Thomas Boyd, Queens Chapter President

Many CPAs get a certain feeling of relief when we finally approach May. Another tax season has passed, and except for those pesky extensions, much of our work is done. It is a time when we can get back to other tasks.

The Queens Chapter will be providing many activities in the months to come. Our board will meet in May and will elect new officers and directors. Our proposed slate of officers includes Robert Sypolt as president. Many of you might remember Bob as the chapter’s president in 2002–2003. He did an outstanding job. We are fortunate that he has volunteered to do it again. He is already planning CPE activities for the coming year.

Here is something that may interest some of our members. The Queens Library in Jamaica is interested in offering financial literacy programs for the public using our members as speakers. If any of you would like to get involved in this program, please contact me at tmboyd38@hotmail.com for details.

It is hard to believe that my term as president is coming to an end. This will be my last letter as president of the chapter. Looking back on the year, I can say the chapter had more activities, and more members involved in our activities. For the first time, we got committees up and running, even if there are not as many as I had hoped. The chapter’s board has become more engaged, and that bodes well for the future. I will serve on the board next year and will remain active in its events such as the Annual Tax Conference and the High School Career Day.

I wish Bob Sypolt and his new team success in the coming year. I would like to thank my officers and directors for their support. In particular, I would like to thank Aleta Saravia and Edward Torres for their work on the chapter’s committees. Aleta got the Young CPA Committee up and running, while Ed formed the Tax Committee and participated in the annual tax conference.

I am looking forward to assisting Bob Sypolt and his team in the new year, and I thank him for all the support he gave me.
