Manhattan/Bronx Chapter Events Abound By Barry Doll, Manhattan/Bronx Chapter President Dear Members, I hope you survived the winter and the busy season in good health and spirits. And I’m glad that you hung in there despite the cold winter and job pressures. Now that spring is here and tax season is almost over, we can look forward to some well-earned relaxation and enjoyment with family, friends and colleagues. Several chapter activities are planned for April, as described below. Others are indicated in the Upcoming Events calendar in this issue. So come on out! Thanks to the efforts of Margaret Hannon, we will participate in the New York Cares Annual Spring Volunteer Event on Saturday, April 16, from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event, titled “Hands On New York Day,” is sponsored by Major League Baseball and is an expanded day of hands-on volunteering to spruce up over 50 community spaces in a single day. Thousands of volunteers will revitalize city parks and community gardens, and also participate in urgently needed projects at community centers and social service agencies throughout the five boroughs. Volunteers will plant flowers and trees, paint murals in common rooms, and much more. Hands On New York Day is a great way to bring people together to celebrate spring. So let’s get out and spruce up our city while having some fun knowing we are doing a good deed. To volunteer for the event, please e-mail Hidolly97@aol.com or hannon53@msn.com. Our annual election for chapter officers and directors will take place on Tuesday, April 19, at the Society, beginning with a reception at 5:30 p.m. As an added feature, we are pleased to have Marc Klee talk with us about running a minor league baseball team. Marc is well qualified as he is president of the minor league baseball team the New Jersey Cardinals and principal owner of the Norwich Navigators. His remarks promise to be interesting and entertaining for baseball lovers and those who want to hear about the business behind the teams and players. If you are interested in attending the event, please visit the chapter’s website at www.nysscpa.org/chapters.html or contact me at hidolly97@aol.com. We are particularly thankful to Neil Rubin, of Oppenheimer, for support of this event. As my term as your president draws to a close, I want to thank the members of the board of directors and committee chairs and members for their meaningful contributions in continuing to build a strong and vibrant chapter. We are still a young chapter, having completed our fourth year. But as I look back on my service to the chapter over the past several years, I can see and feel the foundation being developed for a dynamic future. So get involved and enjoy the ride. And hang in there. Barry Doll can be reached at hidolly97@aol.com. |
