Entertainment and Sports Conference Throws a Mean Left Hook of Speakers and Sessions

By Wayne Whalen, Marketing Coordinator

Former heavyweight contender Gerry Cooney, best known for his 1982 bout with then-undefeated world heavyweight champ Larry Holmes, will deliver the luncheon address at this year’s Entertainment and Sports Conference. The retired prize fighter will discuss the work of his organization, the Fighters’ Initiative for Support and Training (F.I.S.T.), which helps current and retired fighters, amateurs, sparring partners and professional boxers become well-adjusted, productive members of society.

Cooney is one of several high profile speakers presenting at the May 20 Foundation for Accounting Education conference, taking place in New York City’s Helmsley Hotel. Rob Light, managing partner of the Creative Artist Agency, will also be on hand to talk about challenges and issues facing the music and entertainment industries and how the willingness to embrace change will be critical to future success.

Designed for accountants, financial officers, attorneys and industry executives, the conference will also feature Tom Wolzein, a senior media analyst with Sanford C. Bernstein and Co., LLC, who will moderate a panel discussion on the entertainment and sports industry

The Financial Accounting Standards Board’s 141, 142 and 150 statements will be covered as part of a special corporate issues session, as will strategic buyer transactions and the effects of Sarbanes-Oxley on these industries.

A networking cocktail reception sponsored by City National Bank will conclude the conference.
