Message From the President By Roger Beer, Syracuse Chapter President Now that busy season is soon to be over, it’s time to plan some events for the chapter. As you know, Lauren Kincaid, partner at Firley, Moran, Freer & Essa, will become chapter president on June 1. Lauren brings great energy and enthusiasm to the chapter and was tremendously supportive to me over the past several years. She has scheduled the installation of new officers to be at the Century Club on Tues., May 18. We will also hold our local MAP committee meeting on May 17 at the Marx Conference Center. Howard Port, the committee chair, promises an informative and productive meeting, plus breakfast! The golf outing will be at Beaver Meadows in June under the outstanding leadership of Madelyn Hornstein. This event has been a sellout the last couple of years, so reserve early. The summer sizzler/CPE session will be at Hinerwadels in late August. It is a season of change. New chapter officers arrive, old officers depart. Electronic filing is increasing and is here to stay. Who will be doing the tax preparation and where it will be done in the future is anybody’s guess. If the recent tax cuts are made permanent or not will depend on whether there is change in November. The results of the Enron, Tyco, Adelphia, etc. trials will determine if regulations change again (they will!). Our members can’t
control these changes, they can only anticipate them and either embrace
or resist them. I have found during my year as president that the members
I’ve had a chance to work with closely are people who don’t
shy away from change but, instead, try to lead it. An example of this
was the unified effort in making the AICPA aware of the concerns our
members have regarding the profession. Only time will tell if the AICPA
will make good on its commitment to enhance our profession. Roger Beer can be reached at 315-422-1391 or rbeer@greenseifter.com. |
