Committee Close Up Editor’s Note: The following is a glimpse of the latest events and developments from some of the Society’s more than 60 committees. Chair Orientation The Society will hold its annual chair orientation session on May 4. The session will cover policies and administration, committee-sponsored conferences, evening technical sessions, the committee comment process, and getting the most out of the committee process, among other topics. Though the session is for new chairs, continuing chairs are encouraged to attend. The orientation event also features a panel of seasoned chairs who will share their experiences and answer questions from the participants. International Taxation The International Taxation Committee, chaired by Nancy Berk, had a guest speaker via teleconference from Paris at its Feb. 9 meeting. The speaker, Aline Renard, gave a presentation on the new tax regime for impatriates in France. Renard noted that the new method, which took effect in January, will no longer tax compensation allowances such as housing and tax equalization payments made to employees arriving in France. The committee learned that the exemption is granted for a period of six years and applies automatically, but only to new arrivals after Jan. 1, and not to those who were already placed on assignment prior to that date. Renard said that the salary of the assignee should be equivalent to what a French citizen would receive for the same job. |
