Web Notes

By Craig Mandelbaum, nysscpa.org Web Manager

This month we take a look at the “Government Affairs” section of the nysscpa.org website.

The New York State Society of CPAs offers legislative information, contact information for state legislators, and the latest bills online, through the Government Affairs section.

The “Legislation” page within this area tracks the latest accounting-related bills and actions over time. Enron-inspired bills, Uniform Accountancy Act bills, New York state and federal bills, as well as Society and agency opinions and regulations, can be found here. Users can also find the NYSSCPA Draft Legislative Proposal within this page.

In the “Contact Your Elected Representative” page of the section, visitors can find every New York state Assemblyman and Senator, as well as the district they represent, their e-mail address, mailing address, and telephone and fax numbers.

Links to state and federal websites, such as the governor’s office, the State Department of Education and the White House, are located within this section too, under “Legislative and Governmental Links.”

Other Government Affairs features include the Society’s Enron Briefing Book and information on the CPA Political Action Committee (CPAPAC).

The Government Affairs section can be accessed by clicking on a number of places on the nysscpa.org homepage, including:

  •   From the top navigation bar, click on “Gov’t Affairs.”
  • From the “Things to Do” section on the left side of the homepage, click on “Track a Bill” to go directly to the Legislation or Contact Your Elected Representative pages.
  • From the “Gov’t Center” box in the middle of the homepage, click on “More Legislation” to go to the Legislation page. The latest government news, accounting proposals and bills are also located under the Gov’t Center box.
  • Access the Government Affairs section directly at www.nysscpa.org/governmentaffairsa.htm.
