Committee Close Up By Nereida Gomez and Ernest J. Markezin, Committee Services Editor’s Note: The following is a glimpse of the latest events and developments from some of the Society’s more than 60 committees. Not-for-Profit Organizations The Not-for-Profit Organizations Committee, chaired by David C. Ashenfarb, held two conferences, one on Jan. 22 in Rochester and one on Jan. 29 in New York City. Both were well attended, with the New York City location bringing in well over 300 attendees and featuring New York City Comptroller William C. Thompson Jr. as one of the keynote speakers. Registrants were given an update on recent critical changes and trends affecting all aspects related to not-for-profit organizations. For more information, see the story below. SEC Practice The SEC Practice Committee, chaired by George I. Victor, held the SEC/FASB Conference on Jan. 22. Key policymakers from the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Financial Accounting Standards Board comprised two separate panels, answering questions from the audience members. The conference drew 150 registrants, who were updated on major developments resulting from the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, including the fact that management’s assessment of internal controls will likely be paid close attention by the SEC. |
