Looking for a Few Good Members
FAE Board of Trustees Seeks Candidates

By James A. Woehlke, Esq., NYSSCPA Counsel

Each year, with terms coming to an end, three vacancies are created on the Foundation for Accounting Education’s Board of Trustees. This year those vacancies will be filled through a more democratic process than has occurred in the past. The Society’s Board of Directors will submit the names of at least six individuals to serve on the FAE board. Historically, the FAE trustees filled vacancies without the formal input of the Society’s board.

The FAE trustees are responsible for approval of the FAE budget, setting the general direction for educational programs, and overseeing the scholarship program and the Career Opportunities in the Accounting Profession program.

According to the FAE bylaws, to serve on the FAE board, one must be a CPA member in good standing with the NYSSCPA. Trustees are appointed based on their interest and ability to contribute to the educational goals of the Foundation. Trustee selection, to the extent possible, represents a cross-section of the Society’s membership in terms of geography and practice.

Above and beyond the bylaw requirements, it is beneficial for candidates to have taken FAE courses or to have been responsible for sending other individuals to FAE programs. In addition, candidates should be familiar with the market for adult learning in a continuing professional education environment. The FAE market primarily targets small- and medium-sized CPA firms, though it is expanding into programs for members in industry as well.

FAE trustees serve three-year terms. The FAE trustees meet four times a year. There is no compensation for service on the FAE board.

Interested parties should e-mail the author (jwoehlke@nysscpa.org) by March 1 and include their resume and a statement of their interest and ability to contribute to the educational goals of the Foundation. This information will be forwarded to the Selections Subcommittee of the NYSSCPA board.
