Message From the President By Lauren L. Kincaid, Syracuse Chapter President On Dec. 8, I had the honor and pleasure of participating in the annual president-elect workshop held at the state Society’s new offices on Park Avenue. Buffalo Chapter President Joe Falbo and Nassau Chapter President Bob Schaffer joined me. We shared our experiences over the past year as presidents of our local chapters and talked about our successful and not-so-successful programs, in the hopes that our insight would be helpful to the 2005–2006 presidents. I remember that I found the workshop especially beneficial last year when I attended as president-elect, and I hope that I was able to offer some good advice to the future chapter presidents. I would like to thank the state Society for asking me to attend and be part of the panel. My experience as a member of the Syracuse Chapter Board over the past four years has been invaluable to me personally as well as professionally. I would encourage any members who would like to get involved to do so and volunteer to be part of one of the many committees at the local level or the state level. For more information on the different committees, visit the Society website at www.nysscpa.org. I am sure you would find it rewarding to get involved. Later that evening, I also attended the Society’s ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate their new offices. It appears that the new offices will be much more conducive to the Society’s events and various workshops. Congratulations to everyone involved who brought the Society to 3 Park Ave. We all know how time-consuming and sometimes frustrating it can be to relocate an entire organization. We will be in full swing of the tax season by the time this article is published. Given the time of year, there are not many chapter events planned for February and March. One event that is planned, though, is the annual Syracuse Crunch Night, hosted by the Young CPAs Committee. The event will be take place Friday, Feb. 18. A cocktail hour will be held in the basement of the War Memorial before face-off. Please look for the registration form on the Society’s website at www.nysscpa.org or contact Michelle Taylor, of Fagliarone Group, at 315-471-2777 or at mtaylor@tfgcpa.com, or Tony Abboud, of Firley, Moran, Freer & Eassa, at 315-472-7045 or aabboud@fmfecpa.com, for additional information. This has been a strongly attended event in the past, and I would encourage all of our members to take a well-deserved break and enjoy an evening away from the office and all those returns. That’s about all for this busy time of year. I wish you all a prosperous season, and hope to have more activities for the members after April 15. Good luck! Lauren L. Kincaid can be reached at 315-472-7045 or at lkincaid@fmfecpa.com. |
