Message From the President

By Roger Beer, Syracuse Chapter President

We look forward to all of you joining us at our annual “Crunch Night” on Friday, Feb. 13. It is a terrific event and a good break from busy season.

Speaking of busy season, it is upon us! I’ve always been admiring of the person who can go through the busy season and not check out from the rest of life during that time. I know the demands are enormous, and if any member can reveal the secrets of how not to be totally consumed, that would be a CPE topic really worth sharing.

Our profession continues to work through the Enron perception problems. I thank the Syracuse Chapter members who stood up and were counted by signing the letter from the NYSSCPA to the AICPA which appeared in the November Trusted Professional. I have been very impressed by our chapter members who have been effectively vocal at the state meetings in addressing our professional issues. It may be a cliché, but local members can make a difference regarding the positions of the NYSSCPA.

I think we can safely say that the NYSSCPA has been very proactive in addressing the concerns of the public vis à vis our profession. We cannot continue to do business as usual, and I believe we’ve taken some positive steps to improve the situation. The AICPA’s response speaks for itself, and we are headed in the same direction. I certainly appreciate the energy and timeliness of New York’s leadership on these issues.

Enjoy the busy season!!
