Annual Dinner Journal Ads to Support COAP Program The New York State Society of CPAs is producing a commemorative journal for its 108th Annual Election Meeting and Dinner. Like last year, all proceeds from the sale of journal ads and premium sponsorships will be used to meet the funding requirements for one of the most successful initiatives of the NYSSCPA, the Careers Opportunities in the Accounting Profession (COAP) program. In 2004, the Society raised $86,000 through these ads and sponsorships to offset the costs associated with conducting the COAP program. The COAP Committee has set a goal of raising at least $100,000 in 2005. The commemorative journal will feature specially selected individuals who will be recognized at the dinner for their outstanding contributions to the Society and the accounting profession. The 108th Annual Election Meeting and Dinner will be held on May 18, 2005, in New York City at the New York Marriott Marquis Hotel. Supporting COAP COAP is a five-day summer program that is held at several college campuses across New York state. The program is an important component of the Society’s efforts to attract young people to the CPA profession. Founded in 1987, COAP recruits high school juniors from public and private schools in New York. Recruitment for COAP is focused on minority groups historically underrepresented in the CPA profession. Through attending courses on campus and interacting with other students who share similar interests, COAP provides an invaluable preview of college life. COAP also encourages students to think beyond college and learn about the business world. Sessions in accounting, financial analysis and computers are all part of the COAP curriculum. The students also get a chance to learn directly from the experts. All sessions are taught by CPAs and other business professionals who have firsthand experience and knowledge. The programs include field trips to corporations, accounting firms and government agencies that provide exposure to the business world and an opportunity to meet with successful minorities. Since its inception, COAP has expanded from two college campuses to eight, with more than 700 high school students attending the program. COAP programs take place at Dutchess County Community College, Hofstra University on Long Island, Le Moyne College in Syracuse, Long Island University in downtown Brooklyn, Pace University in Manhattan and its campus in Pleasantville, Sienna College near Albany, SUNY Brockport near Rochester, and Westchester Community College near White Plains. The Dutchess County program is new for 2005. Many NYSSCPA chapters and their members have played a vital role in expanding, organizing and guest-speaking at the COAP program. The programs also are supported through an all-volunteer advisory board. Please do your part for this most worthwhile cause and purchase an ad for the commemorative journal. There also are premium sponsorships available. For more information or to obtain an insertion order form, contact William Pape, director of member relations, at 212-719-8420 or wpape@nysscpa.org. Thank you for your support. |
