Message From the President By Anthony J. Tanzi, Staten Island Chapter President To all of our members, since my last news message our chapter hosted a number of successful events. At this time I would like to take the opportunity to thank the individuals involved for their hard work. On Sept. 28, we presented a Compilation and Review Update featuring Paul Sanchez. The evening’s success would not have been possible without the help of Kurt Philipczak. In October, we had three events. For our Education Night, I’d like to thank Cynthia Scarinci and Raynard Zollo for chairing the event. Various students representing the three universities on Staten Island—Wagner College, St. John’s University and The College of Staten Island—attended and were educated on the role of the CPA in the public and private sectors. Michael Feinberg presented an outstanding Estate Planning Seminar on the preparation the Estate Tax Return, Form 706. Thanks to Barbara Sandak for chairing this event. And our Golf Outing, held in conjunction with the Bankers and Attorneys at Silver Lake Golf Course, was great fun. Though the weather was borderline, we successfully completed the round, and a good time was had by all. Thanks to Mark Fappiano for his strong efforts in hosting this successful event. In November we also offered three events. For the past four years Jerry LoVerde has taken his time to chair our Bowl-a-Thon, a successful event for the benefit of the Batten Disease Support and Research Association. All proceeds for this event were donated to this organization to continue the support in fighting this rare nerve-deteriorating disease. Thanks again, Jerry. And thanks again to Barbara Sandak for her continued help in chairing the Annual Tax Conference, presented by Samuel Dyckman. For our Officers Visitation and Ethics Seminar, thanks go to Rosemarie Barnickel for chairing the event in addition to being an integral part of our chapter. Charlie Weintraub has been working hard in representing our chapter for our High School Outreach Program. He has visited many of the local high schools on Staten Island and has received positive feedback in promoting the role of the CPA. He was also requested to revisit the schools for additional presentations. On behalf of the chapter, Charlie, we greatly appreciate your hard work and efforts. On Dec. 21, we will host a seminar on the new topic of Health Savings Accounts, in addition to celebrating the holiday season. The event will be held at La Strada Restaurant. Details will be sent via e-mail; please mark your calendars. Once again, I would like to take this time to thank all of you who have helped and participated in the above events. I wish all of you a healthy and happy holiday season. Please visit us on the web (www.nysscpa.org/chapters) for more information. Anthony Tanzi can be reached at 718-667-1500 or jaamtanz@aol.com. |
