Message From the President By Rich Zerah, Nassau Chapter President As we enter this holiday season, we should all remember that one of the central themes for this time of year is the concept of giving. Since our profession is so often wrought with pressure and challenges, it is all too easy to lose sight of some of the important things in life. When we take the time to step back and think about what really matters, it becomes very clear that giving almost always results in a positive impact on someone or something. As you all know, we are celebrating our chapter’s 50th anniversary. Everything we have accomplished during these past 50 years occurred because some person, or some group of people, gave of themselves in one way or another. Whether it was participating in a technical seminar, or writing a newsletter article, or giving blood in our annual blood drive, or simply attending a chapter meeting, it has always translated into the concept of giving. We should also realize that there are no differences between the concepts of giving and receiving, because when we give, we always receive something back in return. And what we receive is usually much more than what we give. As your chapter president, I am always encouraging our members to give something to this chapter because I realize that by having members participate, we ensure the vitality and success the Nassau Chapter has always enjoyed. As you look throughout this publication, I encourage you to recognize the efforts of all who continue to contribute. On Jan. 15, our chapter meeting includes the annual Officers Visitation. This meeting also offers a free, two-hour CPE course on ethics which can be used in satisfying the four-hour CPE requirement. Society Executive Director Lou Grumet, President Jeffrey Hoops and President-Elect John Kearney will address our members during this meeting. In addition, we will have a special presentation to our chapter’s past presidents in commemoration of this chapter’s 50th anniversary. Our September chapter meeting was extremely successful, once again largely due to the efforts of the cochairs of our Attorneys and Accountants Joint Committee, Terry Strassberg and Karen Tenenbaum. The cocktail hour, which was held outside in the garden at the Westbury Manor, was incredibly enjoyable thanks to the great weather and wonderful networking opportunities among members of the Nassau and Suffolk chapters and members of the Nassau and Suffolk Bar Associations. Our guest speaker, Dorothy Herman, shared her experiences and knowledge of the current real estate market in our area. Once again, I would like to extend my best wishes to all our members during this holiday season. With the smaller picture in mind, please step back and find a way to give something to this chapter, because your participation on any level will always improve what is already an impressive chapter. With the larger picture in mind, always remember that you never really lose what you give; you merely extend the associated benefits to others, thereby increasing that which you give. As always, I am available for your input, comments and concerns. Rich Zerah can be reached at 516-735-4717 or rich@zerahco.com. |
