By Lori Pendleton

FAE wraps up its fall/winter conference roster with five conferences in January that will provide participants with updates on auditing, international and tristate tax issues, and the real estate and nonprofit industries.
At the Auditing Conference on January 5, 1999, at 42 West 44th Street in New York City, participants will hear the latest news from the Auditing Standards Board, get an overview of the current litigation environment, and learn more about assurance services and compilation and review engagements. This program is sponsored by the NYSSCPA's Auditing Standards and Procedures Committee, chaired by Vincent Love. The conference chair is William Stocker III (Nassau) of Paneth, Haber & Zimmerman LLP.

The International Tax Conference, sponsored by the Society's International Taxation Committee, will take place on January 7, 1999, at 42 West 44th Street in New York City. Participants will find out how the global marketplace has affected taxation of U.S. companies doing business overseas as well as foreign companies doing business here. Speakers will address residency issues, planning opportunities through foreign taxation, and choosing the proper entity to operate overseas. The conference and committee chair is Lawrence E. Shoenthal (Nassau) of Lopez Edwards Frank & Co. LLP.

The Tri State Tax Conference is scheduled for January 13, 1999, at the Sheraton New York Hotel and Towers in New York City. Chaired by Nicholas Nesi (Westchester) of BDO Seidman, LLP, who also is chair of the sponsor, the NYSSCPA's Interstate Taxation Committee, this conference offers updates on emerging tax issues and legislative changes affecting tristate taxpayers. Coverage includes planning ideas for the 1998 filing season and specific tax developments in New Jersey, Connecticut, New York state, and New York City.

The Real Estate Conference will take place on January 20, 1999, at the Sheraton New York Hotel and Towers in New York City. Conference chair Alan J. Hoffman (Nassau) of Shanholt Glassman Hoffman Klein & Co., CPAs, PC, has assembled faculty who will update participants on the real estate market, tax assessment procedures, and recent legislative developments affecting real estate transactions. The NYSSCPA's Real Estate Committee, chaired by Elliot Lesser (Westchester), is the program's sponsor.

FAE also will offer two presentations of its Nonprofit Conference: January 20, 1999, at the Rochester Convention Center in Rochester, and January 27, 1999, at the Sheraton New York Hotel and Towers in New York City. The conference will address various financial and operational issues that nonprofit organizations face, including accounting and auditing, fund raising, tax-exempt status, and employee benefits. The program is sponsored by the Society's Not-for-Profit Organizations Committee, chaired by Michael McNee (Westchester). Conference Co-chairs are Kit Conroy, of New York Community Trust; Julie Floch, of Richard A. Eisner & Co. LLP; and John E. Oehler (Buffalo), of Lumsden & McCormick LLP.
